Disney Interactive Studios has announced that it is developing Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force: Herbert's Revenge. The game is set to be released on the Nintendo DS line of handhelds and is currently slated to come out during the summer season. This announcement came as Disney is aiming to focus on delivering more original experiences based on its intellectual property to the Nintendo Wii and the DS.

Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force: Herbert's Revenge will track the adventures of Herbert, a polar bear with two major flaws: he is a vegetarian and he is not able to swim. The game will feature a variety of story-based missions but will also introduce new mini-games featuring the familiar cast of Club Penguin, with returning characters including Gary the Gadget Guy, Dot and Rookie.

The new adventure will instantly be accessible to those who are already familiar with Club Penguin and will offer a good entry point for those who get to see the characters and locations for the first time.

Craig Relyea, who is the senior vice president of global marketing at Disney Interactive Studios, stated that “Featuring new mysteries, missions and mini-games, Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force: Herbert's Revenge will continue to entertain and delight kids around the world. Fans of the original DS game can expect to navigate through popular, familiar elements from the virtual world, plus numerous new adventures and gadgets unique to DS.”

The first Club Penguin videogame arrived in 2008 for the DS and sold more than 1.5 million units. The popularity of the MMO was translated into a version for the DS and a lot of kids under 14 picked it up. The developers are emphasizing that Club Penguin is the safest online environment for kids and that the experience is free to play, although gamers can opt for a subscription allowing access to more gameplay features.
