A new video was just published in Microsoft’s already well-known list of clips focused on cloud computing, included in the Cloud Fundamentals Video Series.

However, unlike the previous episodes that focused on various aspects that cloud computing involved, or on the manner in which customers can assess whether a services provider could deliver better than another, the new installment takes a different approach.

Featuring Scott Charney, corporate vice president for Trustworthy Computing at Microsoft, the video is meant to provide a series of details on the state of cloud computing at the moment. Of course, all is seen through the eyes of Scott Charney.

In the clip, which can be seen embedded at the bottom of this article, you can watch Tim Rains, director, Trustworthy Computing, and Scott Charney discussing cloud computing and the changing relationship between people and computers.

“Now we are talking about this massive computing power and aggregation of data in the cloud. Some of the issues are really extensions of existing computing paradigms,” Charney notes.

“If you are thinking about moving your data to the cloud, to some extent you’re outsourcing your computing capability. You have to think about the capability of the outsourcer.”

According to him, the cloud can deliver a great opportunity to aggregate, analyze and disseminate data at a much larger scale than ever before.

He also explains that the new computing models that are based on virtualization can easily scale up and down, and that there is a focus on multi-tenancy, which implies that the security of customers’ data is dependent on the virtualized compartments that separate it from other data.

“Scott notes we will have massive capabilities to analyze data in new ways that provide great societal benefits, but arguably pose risk to privacy,” Tim Rains explains.

You can have a look at Scott’s perspective on cloud computing in the video below, or you can access some more videos in the Cloud Fundamental Series, to learn additional details on what Microsoft’s Trustworthy Computing has to say on the matter.
