“Cloud Atlas” must be one of the boldest projects to come out in recent years, mostly because its source material – David Mitchell's novel – is extremely difficult to transpose to the big screen. A first trailer for it has been released.

Check it out in full below.

Directed by Tom Tykwer and Andy and Lana Wachowski, “Cloud Atlas” tells 6 different stories set in different times.

They seem to have nothing in common but, in the end, it turns out everything that plays onscreen is connected. To further emphasize this idea, some of the actors are used in all 6 stories.

Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Ben Wishaw, James D'Arcy, Xun Zhou, Keith David, David Gyasi, Susan Sarandon and Hugh Grant star, with a release date set for October 26.

Even for someone who hasn't read the book yet, this film looks very impressive. Whether it will also work is an entirely different matter, which will be settled once it's out.
