Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes (with daughter Suri in tow) met up with the Spice Girls last weekend. I know what you're going to think - but no, it was not a 101 Scientology class, and as far as I know at least Tom Cruise hasn't been trying to indoctrinate the girls on this occasion. Actually, you'll be surprised to know it was something really tame and mundane - the Cruise family stopped by the girls' Los Angeles rehearsal rooms and watched an exclusive on-the-spot performance thrown in their honor and for their exclusive benefit by Victoria Beckham and her spicy band mates.
The truly funny part here is that Tom and Katie's 19-month-old Suri have reportedly danced around as the band sang (well, anyway, pretended to sing, lip-synched, call it whatever you like) a selection of their greatest hits. Following the surprise visit, Posh felt the need to let us know just how wonderful she felt about having such great friends. "David and I are
great friends with Tom and Katie. It was lovely of them to come down to rehearsals, a really nice surprise" she said. Yes, well, enough with the patronizing attitude, we all know by now she's rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous, so give it a rest. "Katie has told me before that she used to be a huge Spice Girls fan, so it was great for her to meet the other girls" Posh added.
For some strange reason, I have a hard time imagining Tom Cruise being spontaneous and happy to surprise some friends on an ordinary day. I mean, just now, I was doing this little mental exercise, trying to imagine Tom and his wife walking in a room, smiling, saying things like "Hi, everybody...nice to see you"... Tried it yet? I tell you, it doesn't work on him. Maybe a little on Katie, but even she seems to be losing her spontaneity. So, if there had been an official photo shoot of the visit, it could have been titled "plastic robots meet plastic robot". TomKat meet Posh. Kinda says it all.
