Clonezilla Live 2.2.3-7, a Linux distribution based on DRBL, Partclone, and udpcast that allows users to do bare metal backup and recovery, is now ready for testing and download.

The Clonezilla developers released a new development version for their Linux distro and, as expected, they started making some bigger changes, which include the adoption of a new Linux kernel.

"The underlying GNU/Linux operating system was upgraded. This release is based on the Debian Sid repository, as of May 05, 2014," reads the official announcement.

According to the changelog, Linux kernel has been updated to version 3.14.2-1, drbl has been updated to version 2.8.23-drbl1, and clonezilla has been updated to version 3.10.8-drbl1.

Also, 1-2-mdisks no longer fails to reinstall the GRUB, and restoring a LVM partition no longer prevents any following non-LVM partitions from being restored.

Clonezilla Live is a Linux distribution that does only one thing: bare metal backup and recovery. It's very similar to other, older pieces of cloning software, such as True Image or Norton Ghost.

A complete list of changes, improvements, and fixes can be found in the official announcement. You can download Clonezilla Live 2.2.3-7 right now from Softpedia.

Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
