Rugged storage solutions are fewer than regular ones, and even they vary according to the degree of physical and virtual protection, and it looks like Clickfree built one with the ability to survive more than mild shocks.

There have been a number of information thefts among governments and the like, which led to the creation of more and more secure drives of all sorts.

While encrypted solid state drives aren't that many in number, flash drives and HDDs with both physical endurance and hardware encryption are far from few.

Depending on how much of the virtual and physical security elements are catered to, they can be used in the business sector, industrial environments and even the government and the military.

Clickfree focused more on the physical endurance when it built the C2 Rugged HDD, while also putting in automatic backup functionality.

More specifically, it doesn't need to be set up manually, software-wise, as it boasts automatic set-up and installation.

Additionally, Clickfree threw in the Easy Organizer, Easy Archiver, Easy Viewer, Easy Music and Easy Restore features, plus password protection.

For those that want details, the storage capacity is of 500 GB, while the touch enclosure allows it to shrug off falls of up to four feet. Finally, the hard case is colored blue.

"The Clickfree C2 Rugged Portable Drive is especially useful considering today's mobile lifestyle," said Andrew Barrett, vice president of marketing for Clickfree.

"Whether you are a student, traveling professional or a businessperson who works outside of a typical office or home environment, the C2 Rugged provides a simple and secure way to backup and protect irreplaceable computer data such a photos, music, email, or critical work files."

The USB 2.0-connected Clickfree C2 Rugged, along with its compliance with U.S. military standards, should already be available for order, its price being of $140. Whether or not a larger-capacity model ever shows up remains to be seen.
