Clickfree released portable hard disk drives before, and, of course, it isn't bound to stop doing so, hence the coming of its newest solution, one that leans more towards independent operation than anything else.

Backup tasks can be a tedious thing, especially when it comes to storing data on devices that connect to systems via interfaces that aren't really the fastest out there.

The USB (Universal Serial Bus) standard, at least the iterations preceding USB 3.0, are among those less than stellar solutions.

Still, considering that NAS devices and eSATA drives are more or less a rarity compared to portable HDDs and flash drives, it is understandable that USB backup drives would flourish.

The Clickfree C6 Imaging is one such storage device, one that can have a capacity of 500 GB (sells for the price of $140), 1 TB (is priced at $150 for notebooks and $180 for the desktop version) and 2TB (desktop version only, $180).

Unlike standard portable drives, it has a mind of its own, so to speak, being loaded with software that restricts the number of user operations on it.

Basically, users won't be able to control much beyond what file categories they want to see backed up and initiating file restoring procedures.

All in all, the Clickfree C6 Easy Imaging will automatically start backing up data as soon as it is plugged into a computer's USB port.

“For many consumers, protecting personal files is enough, but for many others, only total computer protection will do,“ said Ian Collins, founder of Clickfree.

”Up until now, PC users have had to compromise between backing up only part of their computer with regular file based backup system, or trying to figure out how to use a complex imaging product to backup their entire computer. Clickfree combines its EASY Run technology with imaging capabilities, resulting in a no-compromise solution for total computer protection that is unparalleled in its ease-of-use.”

The two newcomers should be up for orders in US online stores as well as Canada.
