He says that he has grown up since beating his wife up severely and repeatedly

Charles Ramsey, the man dubbed a hero after rescuing the three girls kidnapped and held in captivity in Cleveland for 10 years, says that he has overcome and moved past his own violent outbursts.

Ramsey tells TMZ that both him and his victim, the wife he hit so badly that he was convicted for domestic violence on three occasions, have now grown up.

"I've made amends with the people involved and we've all moved on and grown up," he says.

There has been a lot of talk on Ramsey's shady past and on whether anybody cares about that after him finding Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michele Knight in his neighbor's home.

Ramsey adds that he doesn't hate women, otherwise he wouldn't have pulled Berry out when she called for him, which in fact is something that anyone would have done in his situation. Ramsey was, after all, in the right place at the right time.

"Those incidents helped me become the man I am today and are the reason why I try to help the community as much as I can ... Including those women."

"If I had so much hatred for women, I would have minded my own business this week and walked away instead of risking my life to save someone else," he argues.

Although he never mentions apologizing to his wife in his statement, she says that she has received said apology and forgiven him.
