Ask any gal and she'll tell you that, sporting the right pair of jeans, any woman is bound to feel like she could rock the world. Apparently, Pakistani cleric Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman shares this take on fashion.

In fact, he's such a firm believer in the power of women's jeans that he's convinced they are to blame for earthquakes, even inflation and other evils plaguing modern society. Or so reports say.

This news story is now viral

It was over the weekend - on Saturday, to be more precise - that the New Indian Express ran a story about how, during a conference at a hotel in Islamabad, the capital city of Pakistan, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islami Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman went on a rant against jeans-wearing women.

The Pakistani cleric reportedly argued that natural disasters such as earthquakes, together with current financial hurdles and other catastrophes humanity must face, could all be explained by women's lack of modesty and their ambition to wear jeans.

Further, the New Indian Express speaks about how, in an attempt to save the world of the evil that are jeans, Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman demanded military action against any depraved women who would dare put on a pair of jeans and go out in public looking like that.

“During a press conference at a local hotel in Islamabad, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islami Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman asked the Pakistani armed forces to launch a military operation against women wearing jeans all over Pakistan.”

“Fazlur Rehman went on to say that a woman who is not covered like a ‘sack of flour’ is a mobile weapon of mass destruction for her state and that Pakistan has multitude of such nuclear missiles in all its major cities,” the publication wrote.

Keep a grain of salt at ready

The New Indian Express news report does not link to or mention any source. The thing is that, although made viral this weekend, the story about how Pakistani cleric Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman wants jeans-wearing women obliterated is actually a tad older.

Thus, it was first published by a website by the name of Khabaristan Times on May 22. The problem with this website: it only runs satirical news. Hence, it might be that the reports about Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman's war on jeans are make-belief.
