Today, wireless carrier Clearwire has announced the availability of its CLEAR 4G service in more markets in the United States, through turning on its WiMAX network in the San Francisco Bay area.

According to the company, the CLEAR service offers users the possibility to enjoy wireless Internet connectivity at much faster speeds than what was available on 3G networks, regardless where they are, at home, in the office, or on-the-go.

The CLEAR services now offers coverage to a number of over 4 million people in the San Francisco Bay area.

According to the wireless carrier, the CLEAR service is accessible from San Francisco and Oakland to South Bay, including in San Jose and the 680 corridor from Concord to Pleasanton.

“With CLEAR, residents now have a fast, mobile internet connection that goes with them throughout the Bay Area,” said Allan Lamb, regional general manager for CLEAR.

“We're offering game-changing access to the internet. For the first time, consumers are able to wirelessly access the internet at super-fast speeds, at affordable prices, and without limits on how much 4G data they use.”

The company has put in place a special promotion for new customers, offering them the possibility to receive a 50% discount on their service plan for the first two months, provided that they perform the purchase over the Internet.

In case there are some unfamiliar with the WiMAX technology that powers Clearwire's network, we should note that it is similar with WiFi, but that it is not plagued by the same short range limitation as the latter.

CLEAR 4G is available for customers via various devices, including dual-mode 4G/3G modems that would keep them connected even when outside the 4G coverage area.

According to the company, with CLEAR, people can be more productive:

- A travelling business executive no longer needs to seek out Wi-Fi hotspots or be constrained by the speeds and limitations of 3G modem cards; - A college student can now have affordable internet service whether at home, on campus or on-the-go; - A commuter can now work on large files or stream their favorite shows while riding the bus or train; - A busy parent can now keep kids occupied studying or playing games in the back of the family minivan.
