Supported on the three popular versions of Mac OS X employed worldwide (Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard), CleanMyMac is an efficient cleaning utility developed by the people at MacPaw. As the company’s flagship product, CleanMyMac is updated on a regular basis, the winter holidays making no exception.

On the page dedicated to CleanMyMac release notes, MacPaw mentions the addition of a Package Deinstaller in the latest version of the program. “Now you can just drag&drop installer packages into CleanMyMac to completely remove all the files that were installed by a package,” MacPaw explains. With version 1.7.3 installed, CleanMyMac will now show a more detailed and localized language list.

The preferences are now organized better, to make them more readable and easier to use, while a 'tweet results' button has been added on the Welcome screen. A self-remove feature is also available with the new release. As for the bugs fixed in CleanMyMac 1.7.3, MacPaw posts the following list:

- Fixed Chinese languages cleaning issue and issues with empty and deprecated language code cleaning. - Fixed errors and crashes caused by the SIMBL plugin. - Fixed some Tiger issues like huge language flags and other minor errors. - Fixed progress bars drawing issues. - Lots of bug-fixes and interface improvements.

CleanMyMac can delete useless files that pile up over time and waste valuable disk space, as well as slow down the system. Unlike simpler “cleaning” solutions, CleanMyMac combines features such as the ability to slim down Universal Binaries, delete unneeded languages, logs and caches, Quick Erase, application uninstallation, and the ability to fully erase trash left from buried applications.

As noted in our extensive review of the software, with CleanMyMac installed and run periodically, your computer will work faster and smoother. CleanMyMac requires a computer running Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later. The software is a Universal Binary, running natively on both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs.
