It might just lay the smackdown on all the others out there

PC cases come in many forms, like every other type of PC component out there, and pretty much everything else that has a reasonably wide customer base. This means that most are nothing special, but it also means that some will stand out even without a press release shouted from the rooftops.

The NZXT H440 case is probably one of the PC cases that would sell well even without overmuch media exposure, just by being present on retailer websites and/or in stores.

That didn't stop the company from posting a press release about it anyway though, and we have to say that we understand its enthusiasm.

After all, the NZXT H440 Special Edition chassis looks great, and it is bound to run quietly and cleanly as well. Definitely a gamer's dream.

The NZXT H440 Special Edition

Obviously, the newcomer is based on an already existing product, the H440. Essentially, it maintains the clean, good looks of the original while offering some perks we'll get to in a jiffy.

First the basics. The case is made entirely of steel, instead of swapping exterior panels for plastic or aluminum. Other cases have a steel skeleton with other such materials for the doors, panels, trays, bays, etc.

There is room for liquid cooling radiators of 360 mm in length inside the H440, as well as video cards of the same length, even more depending on how you arrange the hardware inside.

There's a bottom-mounted PSU bay as well, separated from the rest of the system by a shroud that will keep the hot air from spreading to the rest of the system. CPUs and graphics cards produce enough of their own after all.

Now for the new things that the NZXT Special Edition brings to the table. The all-black paint job is the most obvious, and the tinted window only complements it.

There's also a green LED underglow, as well as I/O LED lighting of the same color at the back. Moreover, the two USB 3.0 ports on the top I/O panel are colored green instead of blue. The USB 2.0 ports (also two) are left black. Other assets include hexagonal mesh and illuminated triple-headed snake logos, also colored green.

Availability and pricing

The NZXT H440 Special Edition case has a price of $150 / €121 and ships with four fans included. It's not up for sale yet, but it will show up on European retailer websites soon enough.
