Good things never die and so is the case with the classic "asteroids" arcade game. The old concept has been taken by Glu and revived in the shape of a mobile game, perfectly adapted to be played in the new environment.
"Asteroids" has been first released on
Atari in 1979. A long time has passed since then, but the idea set at the grounds of the game is still a catchy one, especially in an environment such as that of mobile phones. All that a game needs in order to keep a handset owner in front of the small display screen of his mobile phone is an addictive concept with a simple but challenging idea to support it.
The new edition that Glu has to offer is adapted to the needs of cellular
gamers and looks like it has evolved through time. Graphics are considerably more evolved than in the past, which makes it even more enjoyable than before. The game has actually been seen on mobile phones until now too, although this new release is somewhat special, as developers have struggled to revive the game and make it look as modern as possible this time.
"Asteroids" lets the player choose this time between several
game modes, making it highly easy to customize the scenery. He can play it with "Modern", "Techno" or "Virus" graphics and there is also a PowerUp Mode. Although somewhat inconsistent with the original image of the "Asteroids" game, these new features pump up some thrill, bringing it closer to what modern mobile gameplay is all about.
Arcade games will always set grounds for excellent handset games, as they feature simple, but highly challenging concepts.
The newest version of "Asteroids" will come from Glu in August and will be compatible with a large number of mobile phone models.
