Video game publisher Square Enix has announced that a ruling from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeal in the United States has absolved its North American division of all charges included in a class action suit that was launched against the company because of the Final Fantasy XI MMO.

Square Enix stood accused of “deceptive advertising, unfair business practices, and fraudulent concealment with respect to the online games at the point of purchase.”

The suit was initiated by Esther Long in San Francisco in 2009 and a number of other players associated with it, requesting more than 5 million dollars (3.82 million Euro).

Square Enix always maintained the lawsuit was baseless.

It seems that MMO projects tend to bring bad luck for the publisher as it was recently forced to admit that the launch of Final Fantasy XIV has gone worse than initially predicted, with the game in need of major changes before it can charge for subscriptions.
