With all the new memory cards coming out, and with new standards being started, makers of such storage solutions have to make sure that they have all sorts of cards on sale, so I-O Data created a new Class 2 model.

Since there are many sorts of consumers, there need be multiple types of the same product if they are all to afford a certain purchase.

In the case of digital videocameras and camcorders, this corresponds to not just the performance of the cameras themselves.

In fact, said devices rely primarily on how capacious and fast their memory cards are, and this has led to the appearance of multiple sorts and card sizes.

The currently fastest are CompactFlash cards (CF), though they may soon become even faster, namely when the new CF standard with 500 MB/s speeds and 2 TB capacities gets finalized.

I-o Data this once decided to stick to the lower levels of the market, and that of small gadgets, by unveiling a Class 2 microSDHC card.

It has a storage capacity of 16 GB, which essentially means it can store up to 88 hours of video or up to 5,120 songs.

Also, as far as actual performance goes, the newcomer operates at a speed of at least 2 MB/s, meaning it should be able to keep up with most types of photo shots or video recording.

Of course, being of the microSDHC format, it won't exactly work with every possible gadget out there, or with all card readers.

In fact, it is mostly meant for smartphones and other types of handsets or ultra-mobile electronics, not cameras.

Nevertheless, its maker has also made available an SD adapter, which is actually included in the same product bundle as the card itself and will expand its usability substantially.

Sales should commence next month, January 2011, for the price of $82.
