ClarkConnect Server/Gateway version 4.2 is now available. The users will have better hardware support from now on, and many other advantages.

The distribution brings new and improved features, like improved hardware driver support (Linux kernel 2.6.9 to 2.6.18). Here are some of the other highlights offered by this Linux distribution:

VPN

PPTP VPN and IPsec VPN servers have been moved in the "Network" configuration menu.

Mail

SMTP - The mail server can now reject e-mails to invalid addresses earlier in the mail processing. This feature reduces the resources needed for the antivirus and antispam services.

Antivirus - The solution included in ClarkConnect is now ClamAV, while Sophos is no longer supported.

Antispam - The configuration for the antispam engine has changed. The developers recommend you should review the configuration settings after an upgrade and to install Dspam.

Pop/IMAP Server - It has gone through some serious modifications.

Backup/Restore

The user database is now included in the backup/restore system settings. If you have an older release of ClarkConnect Server/Gateway, settings can't be restored from it to the newer version.

Firewall

It was changed to accommodate the new Hot LAN and Blocking features. If you were used to configure your firewall rules through the command line, you should know that they may no longer function correctly. Also, the advanced firewall module is no longer installed by default.

User Manager

The Community Edition now allows a maximum of ten mailboxes, while some features are no longer supported, like the shell access and dual-passwords used in ClarkConnect 3.x.

Webmail

The default webmail service is now powered by Horde, in older version Squirrel Mail was used for this job.

Web Proxy

The web proxy server accepts request only from the local LAN. If you want other networks behind your ClarkConnect system to be accepted by the proxy, then you will have to manually edit its configuration file.
