Video game developer Firaxis and Valve, the owner of Steam, have announced that Civilization V is the most recent PC-based video game to get a link to the Steam Workshop, which means that it is now easier than ever for players to download and install mods.

At the moment most of the content for Civilization V included deals with changes and tweaks to the presentation of the game and the User Interface.

The Steam Workshop integration will also allow mod teams to better distribute their content and the community has the tools to rate and then recommend it.

Civilization IV got a number of very important and ambitious mods towards the end of its lifecycle (I was particularly impressed with Dune Wars and Fall from Haven), but at the moment the scene is still young for the sequel turn-based strategy.

The game is also set to get its first expansion, Gods & Kings, during July.
