Aspyr Media has recently announced plans to launch Sid Meier’s Civilization IV: Colonization for Mac OS X this holiday season in North America, by partnering up with 2K Games. Sid Meier’s Civilization IV: Colonization is the fifth installment in the Civilization IV franchise, but it will not require the original Civilization IV to play.

The game is still under heavy development over at Firaxis Games, the original creator of the turn-based, real-time-strategy franchise, where it is shaping up into a setting for players to lead one of four European nations on a quest to colonize and thrive in the New World. According to the Aspyr report, Colonization will challenge players to guide their people from the oppressive motherland, discover the New World, and negotiate, trade and fight as they acquire power. Achieving freedom and independence are also key goals for players of Firaxis’ popular RTS title.

The gameplay will be similar to that of Civilization IV, as Colonization is built with the same engine and technologies, “providing the beautiful visuals, famously addictive gameplay and endless fun that are synonymous with Sid Meier strategy games,” Aspyr upholds. Specifically noting that Sid Meier’s Civilization IV: Colonization does not require the original game disc to play, the publisher continues to emphasize the quality gameplay soon to be offered by Colonization, by posting a list of key features, which include:

Improved Diplomacy: Sustain peace and support your followers as you engage in advanced negotiations with natives, other colonists and the hostile homeland—Trade resources, gold and land as you build the foundation for a self-sufficient and powerful colony.

Brand-New Interface: Both Civilization IV fans and players new to the series will feel right at home with an interface that Firaxis has built to be accessible and easy to navigate.

Multiplayer Offers Endless Replay Value: Compete with friends from all over the world via the Internet and LAN modes, offering endless ways to conquer the New World.

Detailed Tutorial Guides Players In Their Conquest: Civilization IV: Colonization will provide an enhanced tutorial that will help both fans of the game and brand-new players on their way to ruling the New World.

Rated “E10+” by the ESRB for Everyone 10 and older, Sid Meier’s Civilization IV: Colonization will be available this holiday season, but fans can secure their own copy as soon as today. Mac system requirements have not been disclosed as of yet. Visit Aspyr’s website for more information.
