Development studio Firaxis Games and publishing label Take-Two Interactive subdivision 2K today announced Sid Meier's Civilization Chronicles for PC, the ultimate Civilization collector's edition. Now that's a collector's edition set if I ever saw one, as it features virtually everything you'd want to own regarding your valued franchise. To be available in stores this holiday season, the $70 price tag seems to be a bit steep.

With more than six million units sold, Civilization became a landmark in the world of strategy and simulation-driven titles that were so popular nearly a decade ago. For the first time in its long history, the franchise hosts the entire series compiled in one exhaustive package. The set will include: Sid Meier's Civilization I, Sid Meier's Civilization II, Civilization II: Fantastic Worlds, Civilization II: Conflicts in Civilization, Civilization II: Test of Time, Sid Meier's Civilization III, Sid Meier's Civilization III: Play the World, Sid Meier's Civilization III: Conquests and Sid Meier's Civilization IV.

The box set features most materials ever to come out of the franchise's labs. Inside the miracle pack, fans can expect to find the Civilization Card Game, with more than 250 custom cards and rule set based on Civilization IV. The Chronicles of Civilization is also included, a 96-page book containing the genre's history, interviews and significant articles and other original literature. Lead designer Soren Johnson and artist Dorian Newcomb go through an in-depth presentation of the franchise in the Video DVD. It's a rather behind the scenes approach, doubled by game footage and game trailers of every title. A collector's edition is never complete without additional extras, like tech tree posters from each game, wallpaper images or podcast MP3s.
