Video game developer Firaxis and publisher 2K Games are delivering a new video for Civilization: Beyond Earth, which steps away from the 100 turns concept that has been used lately and shows how the game looks and plays after the first strategic moves have been made.

Pete Murray, one of the designers working on the turn-based strategy experience, shows fans the tech web after a number of discoveries have been made and explains the choices that gamers will have to deal with in order to push their faction forward.

The extensive footage is a good way for newcomers to understand what Civilization: Beyond Earth has to offer and for long-term fans to pick up some strategies that they can use in their first campaigns.

The turn-based experience draws inspiration from the classic Alpha Centauri, but the studio has updated many of the core mechanics to suit modern gamers.

The one military unit per hex rule is still in effect, but gamers will have new layers, including an orbital one, which can affect their strategies.

Firaxis is also introducing changes to how covert operations work and a new Favor mechanic for diplomacy.

Civilization: Beyond Earth will be out on the PC on October 24 of this year.
