A civil rights activist who believes that African Americans are getting a bad rap over saggy pants is trying to fight the fashion statement with a billboard.

The giant sign has been put up on the corner of Airways and Park in Memphis. Insurance agent Fred Davis tells WREG that it will stay up for the next 3 months.

“Show your mind, not your behind,” the tagline reads.

Davis has paid $6,000 (€4,490) to rent the billboard, but he believes that it's money well spent if he gets young people to lay off the saggy bottoms.

He dubs it the mark of a life of crime and poor education and stresses that it is not how the black community should be represented.

Davis has two grandsons who are attending college and he aims to send the message that it's better to pursue a higher education than to take up a life of crime.
