The city of San Jose is one of the latest important names that embraced Microsoft’s Office 365 over Google Apps, but local authorities have even more good news for Microsoft.

It turns out that San Jose could soon make the move to Windows 8.1 too, as the city is now considering its options when it comes to dumping XP for a newer operating system.

"I think 8.1 will provide a good transition from XP. We have a lot of older equipment. We're trying to maximize the investment we already have out in the field,” Vijay Sammeta, San Jose's chief information officer, was quoted as saying by LA Times.

Windows 8.1 is already available for testing, but only in Preview form, while the RTM version is expected to be released in August. Rumor has it that end users could get it soon after that, as the company wants to release the OS update as soon as possible.
