U.S. Cellular has decided to bring to its users an improved
caller ID, which should allow them to better manage their mobile communications. This new caller ID shows not only the number that's calling, but also the city and the state where that particular number was registered.
If we stop and think about it for a second, this might not be such a big deal, since this kind of technology has been around for many years now, the only catch being that it’s just now that
U.S. Cellular decides to share it with the public. All in all, it's probably a good decision, which most are going to applaud, even if it falls short on the excitement it should have generated.
City ID, the application from
Cequint improves call screening by showing the features noted above. This should give users an advantage in both the business and the personal life, as they get to know ahead the area from where they’re called, just in case that’s all the edge they need.
This service features over 20,000 cities in the U.S., with somewhere to around 700 cities being listed as well for
Canada, which proves that a lot of work was put in developing this technology for the public. Considering these aspects as well, this becomes a fairly useful technology, as well as one that is not that easy to come by these days.
Speaking of the new release, Sr. Director Product Development and Management, Edward Perez, said the following: "Unless someone is saved into the mobile phone's address book, subscribers only have a number to try and guess who's calling them. [...]
City ID gives U.S. Cellular subscribers that additional piece of information that helps identify the incoming caller."
For all interested users, know that this application comes with a free 15-day trial, and, in case you get used to it, or come to the conclusion that it's worth buying, the cost for a purchase is set at $34.99. Subscribers pay $1.99 per month.
