The game is reminiscent of classic NES role-playing games

Citizens of Earth is out, offering a unique experience that's midway between Japanese role-playing game and western adventure.

The game started a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter back in 2013, but unfortunately, the effort proved unsuccessful. Nonetheless, the developers created the game anyway, and it turned out great.

The retro-inspired game sports pretty good gameplay and some neat writing, as well as great-looking cartoonish visuals and some nostalgic charm.

The game comes from Atlus and Eden Industries and puts players in the shoes of the Vice President of Earth, tasking them with the mission to find out why the world has gone mad.

You job is to recruit as many citizens as possible and then make use of their unique abilities and talents in combat and outside of battle.

A love letter to a classic

The game will look instantly familiar to fans of the Earthbound franchise, especially as far as the battle system is concerned.

There is a ton of stuff to do in the game, and around 40 different citizens to recruit to your party, fighting against all kinds of zany enemies such as fat pharmacists, bees, and Carman's Arch-enemies, hippies.

Citizens of Earth is available now on PC, the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 gaming devices from Sony, and the Wii U and 3DS systems from Nintendo.
