Apparently, Paradox Interactive's latest titles, Pillars of Eternity and Cities: Skylines, have already generated $18.5 / €17 million in revenue, over the course of the last three weeks.

The two titles, coming from established role-playing game makers Obsidian Entertainment and from Cities in Motion creators Colossal Order, are among the best-selling video games of the past few months, quickly becoming the publisher's fastest-selling games.

The news comes from Swedish website IDG, which reported on the whole thing, and thankfully, we got to understand what was going on due to Reddit user Meneth's translation.

Paradox Interactive CEO Fredrik Wester has revealed the figures, saying that Pillars of Eternity would have broken all of the company's records so far, had they not been broken by Cities: Skylines, a prodigious city-building simulation video game like no other.

Cities: Skylines was highly anticipated, after the letdown that was SimCity 2013, which left many avid fans of the genre with an unsatisfied craving for a competent and large scope simulation, which Colossal Order managed to deliver in spite of its small size.

Paradox has delivered numerous enthralling experiences

Obsidian's Pillars of Eternity is a throwback to classic isometric party-based role-playing games, featuring many of the hallmarks of the genre, aimed at a core audience that puts atmosphere, strategy and narrative above graphics and fast-paced action.

The game was initially crowdfunded through Kickstarter, becoming one of the most successful projects in the platform's history. Obsidian had full control of the project, and Paradox was mainly in charge of marketing the product and handling publishing.

The commercial success of the two titles attests the versatility of the PC platform, proving that even such niche games, aimed at a specific, usually hardcore audience, can achieve commercial success, as long as the focus is set on quality.

Paradox has a lot of new stuff lined up for the coming months, with many exciting titles coming from its internal studios, including a new entry in the Hearts of Iron series, scheduled for release this fall.
