This past Monday, the US's oldest zebra passed away at Oregon Zoo. The staff working at this animal sanctuary say that she had an amazing personality and that she will be greatly missed.

Citation, as this zebra was named, was 37 years old when she died. According to the official website for the Oregon Zoo, she found herself in poor health during her last few days of life.

Because of this, caretakers agreed that it would be best to euthanize her.

“We knew this day was coming, but that doesn't make it easier. She had a great personality — very easygoing. She was well liked by keepers and staff ... even the other animals,” keeper Diane Gould said.

Citation was born at the Kansas City Zoo back in August 1975, and only came to live in Portland in March 1999.

By the looks of it, Citation was named after a racehorse that won the Triple Crown in 1948.
