In another episode of IT industry team-ups, Cisco and Citrix have joined forces, hoping to help the world transition from the PC era to the cloud, as the press release puts it.

For those who don't know, Cisco is a high-profile, worldwide provider of networking solutions, while Citrix specializes in virtual computing.

Virtualization, and cloud computing as a whole, is the industry's way of enabling users to access their work data from anywhere and at any time, by storing it all in data centers and such.

Citrix and Cisco have now announced an alliance for the creation of a secure Citrix HDX-enabled Cisco network.

They will also boost the versatility of all Cisco media, voice, video and collaboration endpoint devices, like Cisco Virtual Experience Clients (VXCs) and the Cisco Cius enterprise tablet.

“Citrix and Cisco have completed the first year of a very successful collaboration in desktop virtualization that has helped to expand the market and accelerate the success of customers worldwide,” said Bob Schultz, group vice president and general manager, Enterprise Desktops and Apps group at Citrix.

“This expanded agreement will lay the groundwork to deliver a wide range of market-leading, integrated solutions that allow customers to embrace consumerization and deliver IT services with unparalleled efficiency and impact.”

The two companies also aim to invest in joint go-to-market activities, so as to get their services as widespread as possible in the desktop virtualization and cloud markets.

Once their efforts start to pay off, they should have all they need to help client enterprises deploy IT as a service across multiple networks and geographies.

“Cisco is collaborating with Citrix on a broad range of virtualization technologies,” stated Phil Sherburne, vice president, Enterprise Systems and Architectures, Cisco.

“Our first deliverables will be focused on giving end users a rich multimedia experience of voice, video and data on their virtual desktops and apps over the Cisco Intelligent Network, so that from any device from wherever they are, IT managers can deliver the same superior experience at a lower cost.”
