Cirrus7 is a small company that builds mini-PCs, and they've just announced a new small and fan-less version called nimbini, which will ship with both Ubuntu and Windows as default operating systems.

More and more mini-PCs are being launched, and it seems that there is an ever-increasing market for them. People want targeted devices for specific purposes, and they are less interested in powerful and big PCs that can do everything. Many users just need something for office work, or maybe just something for Internet use, so they want the smallest device possible with the most power.

Many companies have noticed this niche in the market, which is getting populated with all kinds of devices. Many of them are based on the new Intel NUC solution, which has proven to be very successful. It's even more attractive for Linux users because Intel provides great support for the open-source platform.

When a new mini-PC is presented, users usually want to know all about the hardware specs. They are indeed impressive, but that's not the first thing that catches the eye as far as nimbini is concerned. The mini-PC looks a lot like a heat sink for a desktop processor, and it's built entirely of aluminium, in multiple layers. That means that it doesn't need any fans and that it's completely quiet.

It's built on the Intel NUC platform, it comes with a choice of i3, i5, and i7 processors, and a number of other separate 90 components that can be selected by the user. It will also ship as a do-it-yourself kit for the PC enthusiasts. As it stands right now, it will also feature Ubuntu 14.04 LTS or Ubuntu 15.04, but a Windows options is also provided.

There is no price tag attached to it, but people will be able to place pre-orders by the end of April or the beginning of May.
