Cirque Du Soleil Las Vegas show ends in tragedy as one performer falls to her death

For the first time in Cirque Du Soleil’s 30-year history, a performer dies in the middle of the show: this weekend, during the show “Ka” at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Sarah (Sassoon) Guyard fell to her death when the wire she was hanging from “just snapped.”

People magazine reports that the show was canceled immediately. Further performances are now on hold while authorities investigate the accidental death.

Guyard had worked with the acrobatic group since 2006 and was a seasoned performer.

“The entire Cirque du Soleil family is deeply saddened by the accidental death. The artist’s immediate family has been informed of the accident. Our thoughts are with her family and the entire Cirque du Soleil family,” a spokesperson says.

Guy Laliberté, who founded Cirque Du Soleil, has also issued a statement to say, “I am heartbroken. I wish to extend my sincerest sympathies to the family. We are all completely devastated with this news.”

An investigation is now underway to determine what exactly went wrong.
