Even without native chipset support, the USB 3.0 SuperSpeed standard has grown in popularity enough for a new device compatible with it, and Cirago has just made its own contribution in the form of the CST6000.
For those interested in a reminder, the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 standard is the latest iteration of the Universal Serial Bus specification.
Basically, it is ten times faster than USB 2.0, which means it has a theoretical maximum transfer rate of 4.8 Gbps (5 Gbps).
The new drive compatible with this standard is designed in such a way as to fit inside a pocket, measuring 3.25″ x 5 1/3″ x 0.5″, among the thinnest USB 3.0 drives available in fact.
Consumers can load it with whatever kind of files they wish, such as music, data, video and others.
Already added to its maker's website, the newcomer needs only to be plugged into the USB port in order to be accessed, being completely plug and play-ready.
There is also a LED power indicator and, of course, compatibility with previous iterations of USB, though the speed will naturally be limited in such case.
“The search for affordable, compact, and fast storage is over. The latest portable hard drive from Cirago rapidly transfers at SuperSpeed with USB 3.0 enabled devices,” states the product page.
“Pocket-sized and light-weight, the CST6000 series allows information to move with the user, without the extra weight. With information at one’s fingertips in a mini, portable handheld case, transporting large amounts of information and traveling light is easier than ever before,” the company adds.
There are, for now, four versions of the
CST6000, with capacities of 250 GB, 320 GB, 500 GB and 640 GB.
All of them come with their very own USB 3.0 cable, carry pouch and auxiliary power cable and a price of between $69.99 and $99.99.
Cirago made its creation compatible with both Mac OS and the Microsoft Windows operating system, even throwing in Linux support.
