Cinnamon is a desktop environment built by the Linux Mint team and it's implemented by default in the Mint OSes. The current update, 2.4.7 is just a maintenance one, but it's pretty extensive and it comes with a ton of changes.

Numerous updates have been released in the 2.4.x branch of Cinnamon, and it looks like the developers are not done with it, not by a long shot. They have already detailed 2.6.x, but it looks like that version is still pretty far away. In the meantime, users will be able to update their current Cinnamon version to a newer one that should provide a much better experience.

Both Linux Mint systems that are using Cinnamon are receiving the 2.4.7 update and users will most likely see some improvements. Even if this is just a maintenance release, and it doesn't bring any new features, but that doesn't mean that it's not interesting. In any case, if you have a Linux Mint installation, you might want to check for updates as soon as possible.

Cinnamon 2.4.7 should be available in the repositories very soon

Most of the changes in the latest Cinnamon iteration are fixes and various small changes. Even if you're not affected by any of these problems, it's still a good idea to upgrade your system.

According to the changelog, the wrong week number is no longer shown in the calendar applet, cinnamon-slideshow no longer spawns child processes, and a missing tooltip has been added for Keybinding.

Also, a number of memory leaks have been corrected, a dnd freeze bug has been fixed, garbage collection for cjs has been improved, cinnamon-screensaver has been refined, and a number of other changes have been made.

You can find more information about the latest Cinnamon 2.4.7 release in the official announcement. The Cinnamon 2.4.7 source packages are available for download right now, but if you have a Linux Mint OS you should wait until it hits the repositories.
