The well-known Chromixium distribution derived from the world's most popular free operating system, Ubuntu, and designed from the ground up to look like Google's Chrome OS has reached version 1.1 today, June 4.

While there are no official release notes available, we've downloaded the Chromixium 1.1 ISO image to take a quick look and see if there are any significant changes. Therefore, we've noticed that the distribution is now based on Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS (Trusty Tahr) and uses its Linux 3.13 kernel packages as of May 26, 2015.

The look and feel of the Chromixium distro remain unchanged, as you can see from the screenshots below. We will update this article when the Chromixium developer posts some information about what exactly has been modified and what new features have been added in the 1.1 release of the distribution.

Highlights of the Chromixium 1.1 Linux operating system

On this occasion, we would like to remind everyone reading this that the Chromixium OS distribution comes with built-in support for most of Google's services, including Chrome Web Store, YouTube, Google Search, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Slides, and Google Sheets.

Optional support for Google sign-in via the Chromium web browser is also provided, along with the Pepper Flash Plugin for an enhanced browsing experience and support for computers with up to 64GB of RAM. Its Chrome OS-like interface combines elements from the LXDE (LXPanel), elementary OS (Plank dock), and Openbox projects.

In the meantime, you can download Chromixium 1.1 right now via Softpedia or from the project's website, whichever suits you best. Just like the previous release, the distro is available only for 32-bit (i386) hardware platforms. Also, please note that the password for the Live CD is "user" - without quotes.
