Google’s Chrome web browser for iOS platforms is gaining more and more traction, as usage in the past year has nearly doubled, reaching 3% marketshare.

While that may not sound like much, consider the fact that Apple has hundreds of millions of devices out there, and 3 percent of the people using them seem to prefer an alternative to Safari.

An excerpt from the Chitika report can be found below.

“The resulting increase in Chrome usage on iOS devices will likely be seen as a victory by Google. About one month following Chrome's debut on iOS in mid-2012, 1.5 percengt of iOS web traffic was generated by users of the browser, and Chrome was one of the most downloaded free apps within the Apple App store. In the more than 14 months since that time, Chrome's share largely stagnated in the 2 percent range. The final week of September marked the first week usage rates on iOS crossed the 3 percent barrier.”

On iOS 6, I wouldn’t be caught dead using anything else but Safari for browsing the web. On iOS 7, Chrome is proving a much better tool for my web surfing needs, both functionally and graphically.
