While StatCounter is very optimistic about Chrome and has been proclaiming it the most popular browser in the world, Net Applications is more reserved. In fact, in its stats, Chrome is only the world's third most popular and it's struggling to keep up.
In fact, Chrome lost some market share from August to September, going from 19.13 percent to 18.86 percent. It didn't lose out to one particular browser, it seems that everyone else gained some market share in the last month, everyone but Chrome.
IE went from 53.60 percent to 53.63 percent, too small an increase to mean anything. IE started picking up some steam at the beginning of the year and went as high as 54 percent, but has been declining slowly since.
Firefox's market share went up by the same paltry amount, from 20.05 percent in August to 20.08 percent in September.
Safari is doing better, going from 5.10 percent to 5.26 percent in one month, the single biggest rise. Opera also gained some market share, going from 1.58 percent to 1.62 percent.
