Chromebook users sporting the bleeding edge dev channel release may have been missing their media player for the past week or so, but the latest update fixes the issue and several more.

What's more, the latest Chrome OS dev channel update for Chromebooks also brings some fixes to the not-so-great new tab page from Chrome 15.

"The Google Chrome team is happy to announce the release of Chrome 15.0.862.1 (Platform version: 950.0) on the Dev Channel for Chromebooks (Acer AC700, Samsung Series 5, and Cr-48)," Google's announcement said.

The latest update is just a bug-fixing release, so there aren't any big new features. Some stability issues have been resolved and several bugs have been squashed, as with any update.

The media player, which enables Chromebook users to play local files, i.e. music, videos and so on, was broken in the first Chrome OS to feature Chrome 15, but it has now been fixed. Hopefully, a week without it wasn't too bad.

The new tab page, that's being introduced in Google Chrome 15, has gotten some fixes and some of the most glaring issues, like not being able to click on UI elements, because they overlapped each other, have been fixed.

This doesn't change the fact that the redesigned new tab page asks users to do several more actions for any task. That said, if you're using a lot of apps, but don't really care about bookmarks or recently visited sites, the revamped new tab page certainly does look a lot slicker.

The latest Chrome OS dev channel update features all of the fixes and updates in the latest Chrome 15 dev, naturally. On top of the list is an updated V8 3.5.8.0 JavaScript engine. Other fixes include a now working again Print Preview and an issue with sync.
