While they’re waiting for Google Chrome 7.0, early adopters now have a new Dev channel release of version 6.0 of the open source browser to play with.

Google has updated the most advanced version of Chrome, save for the Builds in the Chromium project, and made a new release available for download.

Google Chrome 6.0.495.0 is offered to testers through the Dev channel for the browser. According to Anthony Laforge, from the Google Chrome team, Chrome 6.0.495.0 is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

Laforge noted that the Mountain View-based search giant has “fixed some minor issues with CSS custom cursor rendering; re-enable the link to disable individual plug-ins in a group; and fixed playback rate for WebM/VP8 on certain content.”

Just a day earlier, Google had released a new Beta development milestone of Chrome 6.0.

Google Chrome 6.0.472.36 was designed to introduce a range of fixes to bugs affecting the stability of the browser, as well as tweaks to the graphical user interface.

Of course, as the Mountain View-based search giant revealed recently, early adopters and users shouldn’t get too comfortable with new versions of Chrome, simply because they won’t get to use them for very long.

With Chrome 6.0 graduated to the Beta channel, Google is starting to shift more of its focus to the upcoming major version of the open source browser.

Following the release of Chrome 6.0 Beta, Google released the first Chrome 7.0 Builds in the Chromium repositories.

Fact is that the Dev cannel of Chrome will also be moved to version 7.0 in the immediate future. Of course, Google is not offering a timetable for the development process of its open source browser.

Still, the search giant did note the in past that major new releases of Chrome will succeed one another rapidly, per the new accelerated release process embraced by the company.
