She’s 31 and she may be one of the hottest actresses out there, but that’s not to say that Christina Ricci can just say that she’s this gorgeous naturally. In what must be one of her most honest interviews to date, the actress opens up about her obsession with her weight and how hard she tries to keep it under control.
Ricci has now a figure most women would kill for, but she’s very honest about it: you don’t get it without working out and dieting like crazy, without making plenty of sacrifice.
Now working on a new television series called “Pan Am,” Christina says looking good is something she expects from herself. It’s not the industry pressuring her to look a certain way, it’s herself who does it.
“We all have to be in bikinis in the second episode. Some of the girls are like, ‘I’m not dieting, screw it!’ And I’m, like, totally dieting; I’m eating protein and vegetables,” the diminutive actress says.
She’s also working out whenever she can to make sure she burns whatever extra calories she might consume.
“And I’m doing my Pilates exercises at night, when I’m watching television. My Pilates instructor wrote out three different routines for me. I’ve worked out, OK, this one I can do in my dressing room, and this one in the studio at lunch,” Ricci explains.
“It’s going to be pretty funny. People are going to be like, ‘Um, Christina’s doing her thrust-walks in the hallway again’,” she adds.
Having struggled with weight issues, low body image and even eating disorders her entire youth, Christina realized she needed to do something to make sure she improved her self-esteem.
“I’ve been doing this for a really long time and I used to hate feeling insecure. It’s the worst feeling in the world. So, I do a lot of things in advance so that I know I won’t have to feel [so bad] about myself,” she says.
With all this, Ricci is determined not to get too carried away with it and end up “punishing” herself with this lifestyle – and she does that by constantly reminding herself that, no matter what she does, she will never look “like the average person in a bikini.”
