2012 is going to be an amazing year for Christina Aguilera and her millions of fans from all over the world. After the rather disappointing (but only commercially) “Bionic” album, the diva is gearing up for the release of a new material.

It’s called “Lotus” and has already been preceded by the single “Your Body.”

The latest issue of Billboard magazine comes with a comprehensive interview with Aguilera on topics as varied as her new sound and album, her previous releases, her fans and her message to them, and former “rival” Britney Spears and other pop acts from their generation.

“Lotus” arrives in stores this November and will mark a shift from the sound explored by Christina on “Bionic,” she explains for the music publication.

For starters, “Bionic” was more of an experiment than a traditional album, which explains why it underperformed in terms of sales.

Secondly, in the end, it was ok that “Bionic” wasn’t a commercial hit because, this way, Christina had the guarantee that only true music lovers (and true fans) bought it and gave it a try, she says.

“This album [“Lotus”] represents a celebration of the new me, and to me the lotus has always represented this unbreakable flower that withstands any harsh weather conditions in its surroundings, that withstands time and remains beautiful and strong throughout the years,” she tells Billboard.

“And now I’m at a place at 31, where the last time I felt this way was when I was 21 with Stripped and I had a lot to say and a lot to express,” Christina adds.

There are obvious comparisons to that album, in the sense that “Lotus” too will mirror changes in her life.

“There’s a song called ‘Army of Me,’ which is sort of a ‘Fighter 2.0.’ There is a new generation of fans from a younger demographic that might not have been with me all the way but that watch me on the show now,” she says.

“I feel like every generation should be able to enjoy and have their piece of ‘Fighter’ within. This time, the way it musically came together it just felt right for this time and this generation,” explains the star.

As for her one-time rival Britney Spears, Christina says that whatever competition they had going on when they first broke on the scene no longer exists.

On that note, she would love to watch Spears on X Factor, but Christina barely has the time to watch her own show, The Voice. “So there’s your answer,” she says.
