Christina Aguilera has had a very rough year: her marriage fell apart and her career took a turn for the worse, as her most recent album failed to deliver the goods. In her first candid interview since all this started, the singer opens up about everything.
Aguilera is one of the judges on the upcoming singing competition The Voice, as we also
informed you a while back.
The show will offer her the chance to show the world that she’s human too and makes mistakes and, most importantly, that she’s learned from them, she says in an interview with
Parade magazine.
Referring to the events in her personal life (divorce, talk of an alcohol issue, and
recent DUI arrest), Aguilera calls them “setbacks” and “hiccups.”
Everyone makes mistakes, but she gets to make hers with the eyes of the entire world on her, she points out.
“I’ve gone through a really hard divorce, and anyone who has gone through a divorce will speak about how hard the journey is from start to finish. It’s a life-uprooting time and there have been hiccups along the way that unfortunately the whole world gets to witness and judge,” she says.
Christina also acknowledges her career suffered because of everything going on in her personal life, but she sees this too as part of learning from her mistakes.
“If you make a mistake, you know what? You’re human and you’re going to catch flack for it and that’s just the way it is,” she says with a shrug.
“The best thing at the end of the day is that you can prove to not only everyone else, but most importantly yourself, that you’re strong enough to get back up on that stage and be fearless enough to try again and know within yourself that it will be better,” Christina adds.
In the same interview, the singer (also dubbed in the media as The Voice) also reveals that son Max is not exactly happy with mom going back to work so soon, but hopes that he will understand this better as he grows up.
