Christina Aguilera says she has nothing but respect for Lady Gaga, there’s plenty of room for both of them

Yesterday, the Internet started to buzz over an interview Christian Aguilera gave to the latest issue of Out magazine, in which she seemed to be dissing pop rival Lady Gaga by calling her a “newcomer” who was, at best, “fun” to look at. In a post on her official webpage, Aguilera sets the record straight on the so-called diss in what she says it’s the first and last time she deigns to address such rumors.

The Out interview was heavily covered by various music publications and generated plenty of comments with both fans of the singers and celebrity blogs. That was because it made Christina look like she didn’t give a rat’s you-know-what on Lady Gaga, despite the fact that she is, as Out also puts it, the one who dictates the pop conversation at this very moment. Far from it, Aguilera explains in her letter to the fans: she respects Gaga and she’s very sorry her words got twisted so that someone could sell more magazines.

“Dear Fans, I would like to take a moment to clarify something that has been brought to my attention this morning. It is very easy for comments to be taken out of context and create unnecessary drama-especially between us women. So I would like to tell you all directly so my words can not be misconstrued to sell someone else’s story… I have absolutely nothing against Lady Gaga or any other female artist in this business,” Christina Aguilera writes on her official website.

“I think she is great, and I appreciate any woman fearless enough to go against the norm. She has earned her success with hard work and a clear focus and I have nothing but respect for that. There is room for all of us on everyone’s iPods. This is not the first time I have been unfairly pitted against another female artist but it will be the last time I comment on the matter. ‘Can’t hold us down….’ With love, C/X,” the artist further says.

This should put an end to talk of how Aguilera sees herself as better and with  more staying power than Lady Gaga, on the premise that the latter is relatively new to the pop scene. Still, some fires can’t be so easily put out: and fans of Christina and Gaga are now weighing a genuine battle online to prove one is better than the other, no matter the means.
