Diamonds are a girl’s best friends and there’s no better way to make a declaration of love than with some help from a gem like this. Or so they say. Christie’s has unveiled the “Love at First Sight” heart-shaped diamond that will go on sale in May.

The diamond, one of the few over 50 carats of this clarity and perfection, has been unveiled yesterday, February 14, on the lovefest that is Valentine’s Day.

It is part of the Magnificent Jewels collection that will go on sale in May and was previewed alongside other 8 gems, but surpassed by no other, as Diamond Price Guide reports.

It is expected that the heart-shaped rock will sell for anywhere between $9 million and $12 million – but it has countless things speaking in its favor, that make it merit its exorbitant price.

“Included in the 9 previewed pieces was the particularly stunning 56.51-carat un-mounted perfectly symmetrical heart-shaped diamond which has everyone oohing and aahhing,” DPG writes.

“This diamond will certainly be the one to take the show with nearly perfect grades in all quality areas. The stone is graded D in color, IF in clarity and we give it an exquisitely romantic in cut,” the e-zine further notes.

“‘Love at First Sight’ is how they are marketing this beauty and experts estimate that type IIa rock will rake in up to $12 million,” DPG informs.

The heart-shaped diamond will only go on sale on May 18 in Geneva.

For those thinking that the price may be a bit too much, suffice it to say that “Love at First Sight” is actually “cheap” if compared to other sparklers on record, the same publication underlines. If it’s any consolation, that is.

“The Cullinan diamond, found in the rough at 3,106.75 carats was cut into several smaller diamonds with the largest, the Cullinan 1, weighing in at a whopping 530.20 carats. The Cullinan 1, now part of Britain’s Crown Jewels, is today the most expensive diamond ever, valued at over $400 million,” DGP says.
