Fans already know that “The Dark Knight Rises” is Chris Nolan and Christian Bale's third and last Batman film. That might change though, the actor reveals in a new interview with Empire Magazine.
Both Nolan and Bale have repeatedly stressed they would not return for a fourth film no matter how much money Warner Bros. threw at them, because the story was conceived as a trilogy from the get-go.
No word on where Nolan stands on this these days, but Bale seems to have had a slight change of heart, one that might actually allow him to reprise the role of the caped crusader for another film.
There is a big “if” to go with that, of course.
“My understanding is that this is the last one. I think it’s appropriate, I think it’s going out at the right time. But… if Chris came to me with a script and said, 'You know what? There is another story' then I would love the challenge of making a fourth one work,” he says.
In other words, he'll only do a fourth Batman film if Nolan is also on board – and odds of that happening are very slim, to say the least.
Either way, assuming the impossible happens, will you watch a fourth Batman film with the same formula? Or are Nolan and Bale “selling out” for going back on their word?
