Chris Kelly of hit ‘90s hip hop band Kris Kross died last week at the young age of 34. Police suspect a drug OD but no official cause of death has been released yet. He was laid to rest the other day in Atlanta.

The service was attended by family, friends, and industry people who had worked with Kris at one time or another.

Kris Kross, as fans might remember, was poised on a comeback, having already made a string of public appearances and performances.

Also at the funeral was Kelly’s bandmate and good friend Chris “Daddy Mac” Smith, who had a very hard time fighting back tears to say a few words, as the video below will confirm.

“He was a true friend... I just wanna say I love you man... and I'm gonna miss you dearly,” he said.

“My life ... it ain't ever gonna be the same, but I just hope our legacy for hip-hop is never forgotten. I'm gonna do my part to make sure Chris' legacy will live on,” Smith promised.

As a tribute to the late rapper, Jermaine Dupri and Da Brat wore their pants backwards, which was a signature Kris Kross style back in the day. To his death, Chris Kelly still wore his pants that way.
