
According to his publicist Matt Labov, Chris Rock won't be hosting the Oscars any more in March next year. Mr. Labov said to The Associated Press on Friday, via a brief e-mail statement, that "he is not hosting the Academy Awards."
Chris Rock has stirred up controversy this year by suggesting that straight men don't watch the Oscars. He also named the notion of giving awards for art "idiotic."
In February this year, younger viewers watched and liked him, but veterans were annoyed by some of the jokes he made.
He said: "You want Tom Cruise and all you can get is Jude Law."
Sean Penn promptly defended Jude Law, by saying he is "one of our finest actors."
Per total, the February show had lower ratings than the previous edition.
No comments have yet been made by
the Academy regarding to whom will be hosting next year's ceremony. An announcement is expected in the next few weeks.
Bets are on talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. While hosting the recent Emmy Awards celebration, she playfully suggested she might be up for the job.
