Richard Garriott, the current designer behind Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues, has praised fellow veterans Chris Roberts, Will Wright and Peter Molyneux.

He tells PC Gamer that, “I think there’s really very few great game designers. I think Chris Roberts is one of them, Will Wright’s another, Peter Molyneux is another.”

He adds, “They clearly exist, but on the whole, I think that the design talent in our industry is dramatically lower than we need, as an industry.”

Garriott is best known for creating the Ultima role-playing series and for going into space recently.

The designer is currently asking fans to fund Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues, a game that will use RPG elements but will also borrow mechanics from the MMO space.

Roberts is also working on a new space sim, Molyneux has also sought Kickstarter money and Will Wright is currently not working on an active project.
