Chris Roberts, the leading developer working on Star Citizen, says that gamers who have backed the title will be able to get access to the first Dogfighting module in late April of this year, after a special event that will be organized before PAX East and will only be open to backers.

The game creator writes on the official site of the game that “The team is scurrying to take care of thousands upon thousands of necessary details: variable damage states, HUD detailing, weapons cameras, engine sounds and countless other things that go into creating an immersive space combat experience. At this point, we can now regularly dogfight here in the office.”

Roberts explains that the launch will only take place as long as the development process goes as planned from now on and the company is entirely satisfied with the quality of the experience.

The Dogfighting module for Star Citizen sits at the core of the experience and allows players to engage in battles with other gamers and use a limited range of the vessels that will be used in the full title.

The developers are still working on other aspects of the experience, and at least one more module might be finished before the end of the year.

In order to ramp up development on Star Citizen, the team Chris Roberts has assembled has been increased to 212 developers.

The developer adds, “More people are working on this project than most AAA console titles, and it’s definitely the largest team to work on a Space Sim. These are jobs you have created. It’s an amazing accomplishment and it’s all down to your passion for space sims, PCs and doing something different.”

The fact that all the money currently used to create Star Citizen is being contributed by future players means that the entire team has the freedom to work at its own pace, without having to deal with the pressure coming from a publisher.

Chris Roberts says that, since December 2013, the game has managed to get another 6 million dollars (4.4 million Euro), of which 71 percent came from new backers.

Those who want to contribute to Star Citizen can still do so and they will be able to push the team to add even more content to the title.

The game is set to offer a full space sim experience that will allow gamers to engage in battles or to simply explore a complex world.
