Chris Pratt has come a long way from the goofy dude from “Parks and Recreation”: today, he’s a total hunk. After he gained weight for a movie role, going up to almost 300 pounds (136 kg), Pratt is now in the best shape ever – and all it took was 6 months of intense training and the motivation to do justice to the character he would be playing next.

In August this year, Marvel will be releasing another superhero movie, “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which has been described as the opposite of “The Avengers” in that it stars lesser known superheroes and will be heavier on the humor.

Pratt stars in it as one of the leading guys, Peter Quill, and he tells the latest issue of Men’s Fitness that he was determined to get in shape for it.

For the role, Pratt lost about 60 pounds (27.2 kg) in half a year with a very healthy diet and a rigorous workout routine that included rowing, weightlifting, running, swimming and biking. He trained with Duffy Gaver, who tells the publication that he was going for a leaner but still muscular look, as opposed to just gaining muscle mass.

“Chris’ athleticism is amazing, he is incredibly disciplined and his work ethic is phenomenal. He isn’t the client you have to push; he is the type of client you have to pull down,” Gaver says.

“If you were to walk into the gym when he was training, you would have thought for sure you’ve got a guy getting ready for the NFL Combine. He wanted more muscle, to be much leaner, and to be more fit. He wanted to do justice to the role,” he adds.

The preview issue of Men’s Fitness also includes a few quotes from Chris, but he doesn’t talk about his workout routine; he jokes instead that he wanted to become an actor because he’d seen how much his mom and dad fawned over his brother when he landed a part in a school play.

However, the same preview issue comes with a behind-the-scenes video from the shoot, which sees Chris rowing, cutting wood on a ranch, and riding a dirt bike. The spread will look gorgeous, you can just tell.

Apparently, he really is the kind of guy whom you have to “pull down” because, during the shoot at the ranch, the farmer received an unexpected delivery of hay and Chris jumped on the truck to lend a helping hand just so they could continue with the shoot ASAP.
