Warner Bros. didn’t launch its Justice League universe with as much critical and fan acclaim as they wanted, as “Man of Steel” could have fared better at the box office and angered fewer fans. They’re not letting some criticism stop them, though, and are ironing out the details of the other installments.

In 2016, we have “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Suicide Squad” coming out, and 2017 will be the year that Wonder Woman finally gets her standalone film, the first big screen treatment ever for this superheroine.

She will be introduced in “Dawn of Justice” and is played by Gal Gadot. Again, this was a controversial casting choice, pretty much like any other made by Warners in the treatment of the DC Comics, but Gadot is positive she’s up to the task.

Variety is now reporting that the studio is looking to cast her love story in the standalone pic and that they’re settled on Chris Pine. Scott Eastwood was initially considered for the role, but he was given the choice between an audition for this one or a guaranteed spot in the supporting cast of “Suicide Squad,” and he chose the latter.

In the comics, the love interest is Steve Trevor, an intelligence officer in the US Army in WWII, whose plane lands in Paradise Island. He is rescued by Amazon princess Diana, who becomes Wonder Woman.

As of the time of writing, Warner Bros. would not comment on Pine’s involvement.
