It takes a big man to admit he was in the wrong and Chris Pine just proved that he's not afraid to own up to his mistakes when he admitted in court today that he was indeed under the influence when he was pulled over by a cop in New Zealand last week.

The actor was fined 93 New Zealand dollars which is US$79 and €56.7, as well as getting his New Zealand driver's license suspended for six months. This all went down during the court hearing that took place today in Ashburton District Court.

According to Variety, the actor stood silent during the hearing and let his lawyer, Marilyn Gilchrist do all the talking as she entered his plea for him. She argued that her client was aware he had made the wrong decision to drive that night after consuming alcohol, but also that he had suffered enough for his mistake both emotionally and professionally and that the negative publicity put his acting contracts in jeopardy.

The judge seemed to agree with the entire matter and acknowledged that the actor was now “entirely remorseful.” The admission of guilt also probably helped the final outcome of the trial and determined a much lighter sentence.

As soon as the ordeal was over, Pine was said to have relaxed, a fact also indicated by his demeanor upon exiting the courthouse. He was in good enough spirits to stop and pose with fans and sign some autographs before he was driven away.

The entire DUI incident took place last week and police caught the actor driving while under the influence. As they reported in court, Pine was found to have a 0.11 percent of blood-alcohol level, which surpasses the local limit of 0.08 percent.

When they pulled him over early on March 1 after he attended a party, Pine was tested and then charged with a DUI. He reportedly admitted to the inquiring officer that he had consumed 4 vodka drinks.

Chris Pine is at the moment in New Zealand along with actress Margot Robbie filming for the movie “Z for Zachariah.” The party he was returning from was thrown by the production team, in celebration of completion of the shooting process.

The owner of the bar where the party was organized told the press that those who set up the party had arranged for designated drivers to take the entire crew back home, but that the actor chose to drive himself.

“The pub was closed to the public later in the evening and approximately 80 actors and crew attended the party, which finished at 3 a.m. on March ,” said a statement released by the bar. “This was a well-controlled party, the cast and crew were friendly and it was a great night, not a wild party.”

The establishment also added that “Chris Pine did not appear to staff to be intoxicated to a level where intervention might have been warranted.”
