You can add another actor to the long list of famous people who have been caught by police drinking and driving, one of the more common things that celebrities get into trouble with the law for. In the case of Chris Pine, it happened to be the police in New Zealand, which is a long way from home to get busted.

The actor, who is famous for his role of Captain James Kirk in the “Star Trek” rebooted franchise, was stopped during a routine drink-driving operation according to Nine News. The operation took place on March 1 near the town of Canterbury and one of its “victims” was Hollywood actor Chris Pine.

Pine is currently on location in New Zeeland because he's busy filming for “Z For Zachariah,” a science fiction film that has its action set after a nuclear war. The futuristic flick also stars some other Hollywood heavyweights such as Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor and Australian hottie Margot Robbie, famous for her role in the “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

Strangely, both the actors are said to have been present at the time of the arrest, as they had all been out drinking and partying together. According to a local man, Casey Crawford, who is responsible for managing a bar in the area, the production team hired his Blue Pub in Methven for a little get-together.

Over 70 members of the cast and crew spent the night away at the local pub which they had rented out, apparently in celebration of the fact that they had completed shooting for the film on February 28. After a hard night of partying and drinking, the celebration broke up at around three o'clock in the morning.

This is about the same time that Chris Pine was pulled over by local police officers and subsequently booked on driving under the influence.

Crawford further reveals that “Chris Pine arrived here and had his supermodel girlfriend (Iris Bjork Johannesdottir) with him and he spent most of his time with her, she flew in that day someone told me.”

The pub owner goes on to defend the actor, claiming he wasn't drunk “You can see the photos behind the bar with our staff and he looked fine, I only ever saw him drinking tap beer and his partner she was just drinking sav wine.”

According to him, the organizer of the event had set up designated drivers for all those in attendance, which made him surprised to see that Pine chose to drive for himself.

Meanwhile, Canterbury police confirms that a 33-year-old American has been charged with driving while with an excess blood alcohol and he is scheduled to appear in front of the Ashburton District Court on March 17.
